Somerset Medical Center's 650-member medical and dental staff represents all major medical and surgical specialties and has one of the highest percentages of board-certified doctors in New Jersey.

Board certification signifies that a physician has passed rigorous and comprehensive examinations in his or her area of specialty and is an excellent benchmark when reviewing the physician's credentials.

Some of our physicians are also board-eligible, which means that they are preparing to take the examination by the national board of their medical specialty. There are a number of boards that require several years of medical practice before a physician can take the certification exam. Often, if a physician is not yet board-certified, he or she may still be fulfilling the time-in-medical practice requirement of his or her board. In addition, some physicians may be board eligible in more than one area of specialization.

Accredited boards recognized by the Somerset Medical and Dental Staff are The American Board of Medical Specialties, The American Osteopathic Boards, The Boards recognized by the American Dental Association and the Boards recognized by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.

Many of our physicians have academic teaching positions in medical schools in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, including affiliations with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and the medical center's own fully accredited Family Practice Residency Program . Our patients benefit from their expertise in the use of advanced procedures, minimally invasive surgery and other emerging technologies that contribute to shorter hospitalization, reduced cost and less surgical trauma.
